Bristol Aggie High School - PTO Minutes

December 11, 2019

Meeting called to order by Karen Santos, President of PTO at 7:05 PM

 

  • Mr. Braga (BA Principal) discussed that there are scheduling processes for recommendation for classes in future. Adding classes such as: anatomy and physiology, oceanography, World History AP, AP statistics- just to name a few.

  • Still working on disposable water bottle issue.

  • Dear teacher and dear student presentation discussed.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Total Balance: $8,565.96

  • Bills: approx $700.00 (Bonfire, Anthony Costa for ice sculptures and Karen for food).

  • Bonfire money made:

    • $863.00 (apparel)

    • $798.00 (food)

 

Apparel:

  • All orders placed for Christmas.

  • Discussion of on-line store through Pat.

 

Old Business:

  • ran out of food- heavier on burgers next year recommended.

  • Thank you to dad that holds food safe certificate that did the cooking

  • Recommended that we alert alumni earlier in the season about Fire and Ice so that they can set up a table.

  • Games were a great addition and the students took advantage of having them there as well as use of photo booth.

 

New business:

  • Family Fun night: we seem to have a lot of paper goods already.

  • Pre-plan: photo booth and DJ already booked.

  • We need water, soft drinks and pizza (usually ordered from Dighton House of Pizza).

  • Volunteers and games needed.

  • Ms. Michelle Nogueira willing to help send out emails.

Bristol Aggie High School - PTO Minutes

October 9, 2019

Meeting called to order by Karen Santos, President of PTO, at 6:59 PM with 11 people in attendance.

 

  • Mr. Braga spoke about National Grid moving a pole affected water main and that was reason students were sent home on 10/3/19. Problem was fixed between 3:20 PM and 4 PM that afternoon.

  • Another parking lot opened up behind Flori Building. Students can start parking there 10/10/19.

  • Mr. Braga also discussed reusable water bottles. School committee has $2250.00 in budget for water bottles. There are approximately 500 to buy. PTO is donating rest of money (approx $400.00) to complete purchase for school. The hope is to ban outside plastic this coming January.

 

Treasurer’s Report: current balance is $5,181.93.
Invoice from Pat (apparel)- $449.50

 

Apparel Update:
Ordering for Fall Show in progress: included are pj pants, lined maroon hats, pom-pom hats, braided hats, cinch sacks, baseball hats.
Catalog available- looking into polo shirts.

 

Old Business:

  • Fire and Ice scheduled for November 22, 2019.

  • Family Fun Night scheduled for March 27, 2020 instead, due to FFA convention (many kids away at this event).

  • Teacher Appreciation scheduled for May 6, 2020.

  • Karen Santos has secured DJ and photo booth for Fire and Ice and Family Fun Night.

 

PJ pants, Sweatshirt and TJ Maxx card for $100 given to student in need.

 

Need Fall Show volunteers:
Fall Show runs from 11 to 5 on October 17 through October 19, 2019.
Suggestion made for 3 shifts to be covered each day:
10:45am-1pm
12:45pm-3p
2:45pm to 5:15 pm

 

Apparel will be bought using cash or check- will send out email blast.

School purchasing squares (PTO to donate 2 that have not been used)- these are used for credit card purchases.

attendance.


Treasurer’s Report: current balance $4,986.93- no invoices or bills.


Dates added to calendar for PTO meetings: to meet every second Wednesday of the
month:


-Apparel sales: Placed orders with Pat from orientation.


-Discussion of water bottles for student’s use- trying to go plastic free at school. Mr.
Braga asked that PTO pay for one class year.


-Inventory of current apparel to be made by Lassalete Costa.


-Discussion about getting to event 30 minutes prior to registration at the start of an
event to set up for apparel sales.


-Dates for the following events discussed and Mr. Braga to check to make sure okay to
use facilities:
Fire and Ice: proposed for Nov 22, 2019 or Dec 6, 2019.
Family Fun Night: proposed for March 20, 2020.
Teacher appreciation (brunch): proposed for May 6, 2020.


-Discussion of vaping with Mr. Braga and what has been implemented to help kids
understand the dangers of vaping and that it is not tolerated on grounds.

 

-Mr. Braga brought to our attention of a family in need and it was voted to get student
$100 gift card to store (Walmart) and apparel from PTO store. Anthony Costa, Michelle
Custer and Karen Santos were a few of the members that voted in agreement.

May 8, 2019

Meeting was called to order by President John Robertson at 7:05

 

Board Position Update: The PTO Secretary has resigned. She will return the Secretary’s binder of information to help the transition to a new Secretary. 

 

Mr. Braga’s News: Thank you for Teacher/ Staff Appreciation week. Teachers and staff enjoyed the brunch and the snack in the mailboxes throughout the week.

Speaker Chris Herron needed to reschedule his presentation to May 16th at 8:15. Plans for graduation are underway. Diplomas will be presented by discipline instead of student last name in alphabetical order.  

 

General Business:

Thank you to everyone for their donations and volunteer time for Teacher/Staff Appreciation week.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Current account balance is $ 7,959. There are some outstanding bills (reimbursement to John Robertson for Teacher Appreciation food purchased and $300 to Mr. Johnson for Senior Essay program)

 

Signors and Statement for Account: The change in PTO Officers will require changes to signors on account and address to mail bank statement. Treasurer, Michelle Custer will contact the bank to determine what documentation the bank requires to remove names and to add name of incoming President. The two signors on the account are the President and Treasurer. The bank statements are mailed to President’s address.

 

Apparel Update: Sales at Spring Expo totaled $2,345.

 

Senior Essay Contest: Mr. Johnson reported there were two winners for the Senior Essay contest. First Place award is $200 and Second Place is $100. The PTO President will attend Academic Awards night to present checks to winners with Mr. Johnson. Mr. Braga asked that he and Donna Welshman be notified as to which President will attend (outgoing or incoming) so that the correct name will be listed in the written program.

 

Senior Gift: Karen Santos requested spreadsheet of the names of the graduating seniors from Mr. Braga. Once she has the list she will place the order for the gifts.

 

Board Elections:

PTO voted unanimously for the following candidates:

Vice President: Tony Costa

Secretary: Lassalete Costa

Treasurer: Michelle Custer

 

Non-elected position: The Apparel Coordinator position will be filled by Chris Vedro.

Graduating class (110 graduates) Pen engraved about $420.00 – engraved with student’s name and logo – Mr. Braga to provide Karen S with list of names.

 

Family Fun Night – March 22, 2019 4-8pm DJ $400 - confirmed, photobooth $400 – confirmed, Karen S to coordinate with Dighton Pizza, Will need big gym – DJ & Bat Mitton, Small gym – Basketball, Asked & PTO Accepted with $200 for gift card – games, donation of 25 Pop Sockets for games – PTO unanimously voted.

Treasurer’s Report: Current account balance is  $ 5,177.43 (no outstanding bills but upcoming staff brunch)    Our Stop & Shop Rewards program pays out in June and our balance is $1,800. so far.

 

Spring Expo * Sun, May 6.  10:am–3:pm  PTO will set up the Apparel Booth. Come help if you are able.

Thank You to all who volunteered/ donated at Family Fun Night! The kids had a great time.

 

Senior Class Essay Contest:  PTO voted to once again sponsor this great contest! First place cash prize is $200. with opportunity for runner ups. Mr. Johnson is thankfully coordinating this contest.

              Our Stop and Shop Rewards program balance is $1,980.

 

PTO collected money and gift cards for the Lake family (who lost their house to fire). We were able to provide the family with a $1,300. check. Thank you for your support.

Volunteers Needed:: Several of our PTO officers and volunteers will be leaving in the Spring as their children graduate. We will be looking throughout this year to pass on our knowledge during events so the transition goes smoothly. Firstly, we are searching for a few people to take on Fall Show (October) and Bonfire & Ice (Dec.) events. Current chair people will work with you to share information, tips and experience.

Mr. Braga’s News: Thank you for Teacher/ Staff Appreciation week. We are still looking for chaperones for the Senior Trip to Brownstone Park. There will be a presentation of “Corey’s Story” at Aggie on May 25th which deals with drug awareness. (See more info in the Aggie Weekly Newsletter)

Mrs. VanRotz had school news to share. There will be a visioning session for anyone interested in school and campus planning on Saturday, March 11 from 12:30 -4:30 in Gilbert Hall. There are also 58 students going to present this year at the State Convention!

Mr. Polansky’s News:           

            I’m sure everyone has heard that Mr. Polansky is taking a new job in the end of November  at Old Colony Voc. Tech. High School. We have enjoyed our time together and wish Mr. Polanksy the best of luck in his new adventure!

 

General Business:

Treasurer’s Report:            Current account balance is  $ 7,410.28. An apparel order has been placed for Fall Show of approximately $ 1,300. to be paid when an invoice is received. 

 

Apparel Update:            * New - Raincoats*   Sample Aggie raincoats will be available to try for size and order at Fall Show!   Check out what else is for sale under the PTO Link at the Aggie Website. Complete an order form or contact Kristen or Missy at PTOAPPAREL@bcahs.com

            Welcome all.  Thank you to the parents for making Staff/ Teacher Appreciation Week so great!  The AG & STEM symposium during Spring Show was a huge success!  Mike Smith, a motivational speaker, spent the day on campus recently. His assembly and time spent with the students was enjoyed by all. The sophomore class achieved 100% passing on the science MCAS.


** Bristol Aggie will once again hold Summer Camp for children in grade K-8.  Please share with friends. Sign up now, spaces are limited.

  • Teacher Appreciation Week : Thank you to everyone for your help in making the Aggie Staff feel so appreciated!! Daily treats were put in staff mailboxes and the Wednesday All Day Buffet was grand.

  • Spring Expo : A fun day out! PTO sold about $ 700. worth of apparel.

  • Walk for Hunger  : Thank you to Mr. Johnson for leading “Team Aggie” in raising $ 1,200. for Project Hunger and chaperoning about 15 students through this charity walk in Boston.

            Welcome all.  The NRM students have been enjoying a reciprocal program with Diman High School.  Our students have raised tilapia and visited with their culinary program to see the circle of “Food to Table”. Students are also starting an Angler Club for fishing enthusiasts.

Bristol Aggie will be hosting a STEM Symposium in April.  This is a great event in the science world.  Admission and recruiting for the incoming fall class is going well with very large interest in our “Aggie Culture”.

            Welcome all.  First Term ends Nov. 9.

 

General Business:           

Treasurer’s Report:   Current account balance is  $ 8,010.56.  There are a few clothing orders pending which have not yet been paid. We sold $6,334. of apparel and  baked goods during Fall Show.  

 

* The PTO approved the following disbursements: 

            $250. donation to the Student Council/Mrs. Savage’s Thanksgiving Baskets Program.

            $500. donation to an Aggie family who recently lost their home to fire.

Mr. Polansky’s News:        

            Welcome all. Please visit our Aggie Website for the latest Newsletter which is full of great things happening at our school! Some recent highlights are that Mrs. VanRotz will be taking a student group to the FFA Convention in late October, our students have started “GSA” a Gay-Straight Alliance group, and most of all our Fall Show which will exhibit our wonderful school. Fall Show not only highlights our beautiful campus and community but also our students and their projects and hard work in their majors.  

 

General Business:  

Treasurer’s Report:   Current account balance is  $ 2,992.87.  We sold $673. of apparel and $131. of baked goods during Open House.

 

CORI/SORI Forms for volunteering: Remember to complete these in the Main Office  (re-new after 3 yrs)

 

Apparel Update:     New fleece jackets and crewneck sweatshirts will be available for Fall Show! We also now have PayPal readers for credit card payments.

Some recent highlights are attendance at a White House Conference, tweets about the Natural Resource Management program and a successful Summer Academy to showcase Aggie to a younger K-8 group. The school is also working on possibly starting a School Store on campus. Mr. Polansky left us with the insight that Bristol Aggie is a place where we can “be ourselves no matter who we are”.

Mr. Polansky's News:

    * Check out our online Aggie Newsletter. It is full of lots of year-end information, updates from various departments, and recaps of fun student activities!

     * Promote our new "Summer Academy" for any children you might know in grades K-8. Spread the word with the brochure found in the Newsletter. (expanding our outreach)

    *  Thank You to our PTO Parents with graduating seniors! We sadly say good-bye and good luck to several of our PTO officers who are leaving after years of dedication and fun to Bristol Aggie and the PTO. They will be greatly missed.

 

General Business:  "The Binders Have Been Passed..."

     The new PTO Officers are in place and look forward to beginning a fun filled school year in the Fall. Come to our meetings to meet new people and share your ideas!

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $3,360. There are no outstanding invoices.  We sold $802 worth of apparel and baked goods at Spring Expo.

 

Mr. Polansky – No outdoor graduation this year, maybe next year, not enough time to organize.  Looking into expanding Summer Academy to middle school kids (head start to expansion).  The NEASC visit is complete.  MCAS takes place next week.  Dodgeball tournament is this Friday, the Talent Show is May 21st and the play is May 22nd.

 

Senior Essays – Seven essays were received.  It was voted to award four again this year, one top prize of $200 and (3) $100.  Student names were given to us to write checks for Awards Night (names are not public until then).

 

Walk for Hunger – Current amount raised is right around $3,000.  Money is still coming in.  Twenty three students walked.  Mr. Polansky to send out a ConnectEd to let parents know they can still donate.

 

Teacher Appreciation Week – Breakfast and lunch were served today.  Everyone seemed to enjoy.

 

Ms. Savage spoke about Field Day, May 22nd.  She could use some parent volunteers.  The event runs from 9:00 to 11:47 (early dismissal).  Set up help is also needed.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $3164.00.  There are currently no open bills, all Family Fun Nite bills have been paid.  The final total for Stop & Shop A+ Rewards is $1780.59.  We should receive this before the end of the school year.

 

Mr. Polansky reported on the NEASC visit which is currently underway.  It kicked off with a dinner on Monday night.  The promotional video can be found at https://youtu.be/zBRn1mKnaD0

 

The Senior Class Essay Contest will be distributed by Mr. Johnson on Monday, April 13th.  Essays are due Wednesday April 29th.  Distribution to parents/readers will be Friday, May 1st  Ratings from parents are due to Mr. Johnson on Monday, May 4th and he will present to the PTO at the  6th PTO meeting.

 

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 4th to May 8th.  Daily gifts were brought in to show new parents what is done each year.  We will plan on 75 staff members (the entire staff is included in Teacher Appreciation Week including aides, nurses, janitors, etc.  Breakfast and lunch will be served on Wednesday, May 6th.  Volunteers at the meeting discussed food items they would bring in.  This includes egg, pancakes, bacon, sausage, kiche, fruit and scones.  Lunch includes pulled pork sandwiches, steak, salads, hamburgers and hot dogs.  An email will be sent out to ask for desserts.

 

Spring Expo – Saturday, May 2nd.  We will be selling our apparel and we will include a bake sale this year.  An email will be sent out prior to the event to solicit for baked goods.  These are individually wrapped items, small breads and cookies are the top sellers.

 

Walk for Hunger – It was voted unanimously to donate $500 for the Walk for Hunger.  This money is normally used for t-shirts and buses.  This year the school does not have to pay for the bus.  Any money left over is donated to the Walk for Hunger.

 

The Drama Club will be performing “The Absolutely Insidious and Utterly Terrifying Truth About Cat Hair” on Friday, May 22nd.  The PTO voted to donate $105 for the script rights.

 

 Positions and Jobs for Next Year – Anyone wishing to hold a position next year will need to attend the next PTO meeting to be included in the election process.  These positions include president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $3,164.  The February Stop & Shop total is $1,491.75. 

Correction to the minutes from last month, the donation for the Polar Plunge was to Jordan’s Hospital Cancer Center.  The National Honor Society raised $2200 for this charity.

 

Family Fun Nite – Total cost for this event is $1,910.  The caricature artist was a huge success this year.

 

There will be a Drama Club starting this year.  It will present a short 30-45 minute play.  The first meeting is March 19th.

 

A list of available officers and positons for next year was distributed.  There are several positions that need to be filled before the end of June.  A list will be emailed to everyone on the PTO email list before the next meeting.

 

The Walk for Hunger was discussed.  Mr.  Johnson wants to get more information and present at the next meeting.

 

Spring Expo – We will sell our apparel at this event on Saturday, May 2nd.  An order has been placed to restock sweat pants and t-shirts.

 

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 4th to May 8th.  A sample of the daily teacher gifts will be brought to the next meeting.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $6,309.20.  The January Stop & Shop total is $1,193.76

 

Mr. Polansky was not available to attend our meeting as there was a Board of Trustees meeting which was rescheduled due to weather.

 

Yearbook Ad – This year the PTO will create an ad for the yearbook as it is too late to run the student contest.  It was agreed to donate $250 for this ad.

 

Senior Essays - Craig Johnson will run the senior essay contest this year.  The topic will be – “Why Bristol Aggie was the Right Choice?”  He will distribute the topic after February break.    We will try to get in touch Mrs. Lewandowski to see if she still has the guidelines.

 

Family Nite – Planning for the nite took place.  The event will be Friday, March 6th from 3:30 to 7:30 so students can stay right after school.  It will take place in both gyms like last year.

We will rent the bounce house and popcorn machine as last year.  The raffle will run throughout the night, we will have $200 worth of gift cards, apparel, etc to give away.  An additional feature this year will be a caricature artist.  We will set up the badminton and basketball in the gym.  Pizza, chips and desserts will be served.  We are asking parents to bring in the desserts as we did last year.  Set up will take place at 2:30.  Everyone will bring in table games.  We will have to hire a police detail and ask Mr. Polansky to bring in his mini bounce house.

 

Polar Plunge – We voted to donate $100 to St. John’s Hospital.  The National Honor Society is promoting the Polar Plunge again this year.

 

Scarecrows – Dawn Parmeggiani will be planning a scarecrow contest during Fall Show in October.  She is looking for volunteers, please email her at dontworribhappi73@comcast.net

 

Drama Club – There may be a Drama Club starting after February vacation.  More discussion on that at the next meeting.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $6,171.70.  The December Stop & Shop total is $917.51. 

 

Mr. Polansky – The teacher’s room has been re-done, looks nice, new cabinets, paint, etc.  Our school was 1 of 12 invited to participate in the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s eligibility for repair and renovation projects. We are looking into many projects including a vocational/education center and improving the science labs.

 

Bonfire & Ice Wrap Up – Total expenses for this event this year are $1,053.93.  All profit is from the sale of food.  The bull revenue was donated to the Toy Drive.  We donated $400.

Ron Cobb volunteered to chair this event next year, notes were passed on to him.  We did not need the police detail for as long as we did, we were billed for an 8 hour shift.

We may need to reconsider the cheesy fries next year, they took too long to cook.

 

Yearbook Ad – we need to get in touch with Liz Ward

 

Family Nite – Friday, March 6th.  This year we will have pizza only, no hot dogs.  Further discussion and planning will take place at the next meeting.

 

Toy Drive – The students raised $3000 for the Toy Drive, class with the most donated were the Sophomores with $900. 

 

Senior Essays – we need to get in touch with Craig Johnson.

 

Spring Expo – May 2nd 10:00 am.  We will be selling the apparel.  We will need to restock some items for this event.

 

First Aid/CPR Training – Saturday, March 7th 8:00 to 2:00 PM Cost is $50 for students and family.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $7,990.  We have two bills to pay tonight for Morgado Monogramming. 

 

Stop & Shop – Too early to get the new total for November.  We have 230 cards registered.  Mr Polansky will send out an email blast after the New Year to solicit for cards.

 

Mr. Polansky Report - 

Bristol Aggie Newsletter will be sent out December 14th.  Watch for it, a great way to stay informed.

Mr. LaFaria is starting a Drama Club.  Thirty students have signed up.  They are looking into a Spring production.

The Honor Roll consists of two levels now.  Students need a 90 and above to score High Honors and an 80-89 to score in the second level.  There are significantly less students making the honor roll now.  Results will be posted in the next newsletter.

 

Thanksgiving Baskets – Ms. Savage was able to fill 53 Thanksgiving baskets this year.  Each basket included a $25 grocery gift card.  Awesome!

 

Yearbook Ad – The yearbook ad was also approved for $250 with a $50 prize to the winning student.

 

Bonfire & Ice – Final preparations were made.  We will decorate the barn on Thursday at 12:30 pm.  Volunteers are needed to string lights.  Missy is going to treat the floor for dust on Thursday night.  Kevin will bring in heat Friday morning.  Final set up will start on Friday at 12:30.

The bull ride will cost $5 (same as last year) or a toy donation.  Money from the bull ride will be donated to the Toy Drive.

 

We held our annual Christmas party – a fun time for all!

Mr. Polansky report –

            The first meeting of the Wellness Committee will take place on November 21st at             9:00am, all are welcome

            The first quarter ended November 6th, reports will be out this week

            Mr. Chew was selected as the Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year

            The cross country team placed second in the state finals

           

Thanksgiving Food Drive in is full swing.  Items need to be brought in by Monday, November 17th.  The class with the 75+ items collected will choose a teacher who will receive a whipped cream pie in the face.  Assembly of the boxes will take place on Wednesday, November 19th at 2:30.  If you can help please see Ms. Savage in room B19 (basement)

 

The Toy Drive will begin after Thanksgiving. 

 

The Floral Shop grand opening will take place during Bonfire & Ice on December 12th

 

Treasurer’s Report –

            Current balance is $8,060.03.  Sales this year during Fall Show totaled $4,414.  Last year we sold $3,952.  We have one outstanding invoice from Morgado for about $350 (awaiting invoice)

           

Parent/Teacher Conference – Wednesday, November 19th 6-8 pm

            This is a quick chat with your student’s teacher.  The PTO will set up a table to  take Christmas orders.

 

Trustee’s Meeting – Next meeting will take place on November 24th.  Anyone who wants to see what goes on at a Trustees meeting is welcome.  They meet in Keith Hall at 7pm.

 

Bonfire & Ice – Friday, December 12th 4-8pm

            Awesome family event.  Members of the school and PTO volunteered for the many tasks needed to make this a successful event. The night will include hayrides, mechanical bull rides, food and music.  Please see spreadsheet for additional information.

 

 

Next meeting – December 3rd at 7:00.  We are moving this meeting to the first Wednesday of the month to finish planning the bonfire.  We will also hold our annual PTO Christmas Party.  Please bring a dish or dessert to share.

Current checking account balance is $3,946.63. 

 

Stop and Shop rewards began October 1st.  We will be collecting new cards at Fall Show.

 

Farmers Market – Several volunteers helped support the PTO table from 8:00 to 1:00.  We sold $201 in apparel and $136 in baked goods.  This was not really a good venue for our wares.

 

Fall Show is October 17-19th.  Sign up sheets were available for volunteers to help at the PTO table.  There are lots of other volunteer options available throughout the event as well.  See Mr. Caswell for more information.  You must have a CORI on file to volunteer.

 

Thanksgiving Baskets will be sponsored by the Student Council again this year.  The PTO will hand out flyers during Fall Show.

 

Mr. Polansky will be sending out monthly newsletters.  Student Council Advisory begins tomorrow.

 

Three new PTO members were voted onto the School Council for this year.  They are Cheryl Cunha, Ron Cobb and Kevin Casper.  The School Council recommends policies, updates the student handbook, reviews programs, the needs of students, etc.  They meet approximately eight times per year.  October 16th is the first meeting.

 

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 12th.  We will begin planning for the Bonfire which will be held Friday, December 12th.

We had a great turnout for our first PTO meeting this school year.  Mr. Polansky was in attendance and welcomed everyone to another great year at Bristol Aggie.

 

Officers were introduced:

Mr. Johnson, Ms. Savage and Mr. Chew represented the staff and will be liaisons.

 

Current account balance is $4.274.63.  There are currently no outstanding invoices, apparel purchased during the summer has been paid for.  We sold $2,341 worth of apparel at Freshman Orientation.  We re-ordered for Fall Show.

 

Events for this year were reviewed.

 

Saturday, September 20th from 8-1:00 the Farmers Market will be open.  The PTO will sell apparel and baked goods.  Volunteers are needed to bake and help at the table.

 

We will need to vote on representatives for the School Council at the next meeting.  There are three vacancies to fill.  Last year, Jim Tusino, Dan Cunha and Dawn Parmeggiani were elected.

 

Fall Show is October 17-19th.  The PTO will have a table to sell apparel and bake goods.  A sign- up sheet will be available at the next meeting to volunteer at the table in one hour intervals.

 

And just a reminder, three of the four officers will be leaving this year.  We will need parents to fill board positions next year.

There will be a JV level of soccer next year.  Miss A. has retired as Director of Athletics.  Mr. Polosky will take her place.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $3011.  There are some outstanding bills from Teacher Appreciation and one apparel bill that will need to be paid in June.

 

Spring Expo – We sold $903 worth of apparel during the day.

 

Our Senior Prom donation was used to purchase souvenir invitations.  These are tri-fold invitations with black ribbons tying it together.

 

The senior essays were read by members of the committee and tallied by Mrs. Lewandowski.  We voted to award (1) $200 prize and (3) $100 prizes.  These will be presented at Senior Awards Nite.

 

Officers for next year were voted in.  The four people holding the position of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary will remain the same.

 

The committee thanked Deb Desmond for her 8 outstanding years on the PTO board.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $1,645.00.  There are no outstanding bills at this time.

The ending balance for the Stop and Shop A+ Rewards is $1,789.18.  We should be receiving the check by the end of the school year.

 

Family Fun Nite wrap up – Event was a huge success with over 200 people in attendance.  Our final expenses include:

Teacher Appreciation week was planned.  We will cook breakfast and lunch on Wednesday, May 7th.  Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30.  Lunch will be served from 10:45 to 2:30.  Everyone at the meeting volunteered to bring in food items including bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles and a fruit salad for breakfast.  Lunch will include pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, steak tips, salads and desserts.   We will send out an email asking parents to supply the remaining items needed.  This event will take place in the auditorium this year with the grill placed right outside the door.  Set up of the area will take place on Tuesday, May 6th.  Again this year we will leave daily gifts in the teacher and staff mailboxes.

 

Senior Essays – We unanimously voted to award a monetary gift to the winner of the Senior Essay contest.  We voted on $200 for the top prize and will discuss further awards after we review the essays.  Last year we awarded $600 to three students.

Principal’s Challenge – Our school did not win, however, Mr. Polansky would like to hold an event for the local food bank. He was not able to attend this meeting so we will discuss at our April meeting.

 

New Apparel Purchases – Waiting for the “medium” sweatpants to come in.

 

Providence Bruins Nite - Two families purchased tickets this year.

 

Family Nite – March 28th – Time is changed to 3:30 to 7:30 in an effort to get students to stay at school and not go home. Scott Rose will DJ the event at a cost of $400. We will rent a bounce house and popcorn machine costing $200. We will serve pizza, chips, soda and water. We will ask volunteers to make desserts. Set up will begin at 2:30, some students will help set up after school. Parents will bring in board games and these will set up at tables. We will be using both gyms for this event. There will be raffles throughout the night – gift cards and apparel. Deb Desmond will wrap these raffle prizes. Jim will make a flyer and send to Mrs. Lewandowski for review. The flyer will have a slip at the bottom for students/parents to complete. This slip will enter them into the large raffle at the end of the night. All raffle winners must be present to attend.

Two Seniors made a presentation to the PTO to request a monetary donation for the Senior Prom. It was voted unanimously to donate $400 for the prom.

Family Nite – A new event this year is tentatively scheduled for March 28th from 4-8. This is a family fun event, no charge to families or students. It’s just a fun time, get together. More details to follow at the next meeting. Mr. Polansky will get final approval from Mr. Dempsey.

 

Dodgeball Tournament – date may change due to FFA Convention.

 

The PTO will send a card and a $50 gift card to Bob McGlynn who fell while working at home. Jim will take care of this.

This was a very successful event and everyone would like to make it an annual event.  Both the DJ and Mechanical bull stayed an extra hour at no charge.  There was just enough food, nothing was thrown out.  Jim will forward a summary of the event to Mr. Dempsey to present at this weekly meeting of the Trustees (copy on file).

 

Principal’s Challenge – Mr. Polansky submitted his challenge idea to Stop & Shop.  Their staff may also participate.  He wrote an awesome letter (copy is on file).

 

New Apparel – Everyone wants sweatpants.  We will order 5 of each size.  The zip fleece will be a “take order” item only.

 

Yearbook Ad – The underclassmen are invited to participate in designing an ad for the yearbook.  This ad is used by the PTO for the yearbook.  Students have until February 10th to submit their designs.  We will judge at the next meeting.  Mrs. Lewandowski is promoting this to the students and collecting the artwork.

 

Family Night – The idea of a Family Nite was discussed.  Ideas included a dj, bounce house, games, sandwiches and snack food, maybe a caricature artist.  The idea was to get students together.  Mrs. Lewandowski thought maybe holding it during the Dodge Ball Tournament.  This will be discussed further at the next meeting.

 

Providence Bruins -  Jim mentioned selling Providence Bruins tickets (Bristol Aggie PTO night at the Bruins).  We did this last year, not many people were interested.  He will pick a day and try again this year.

The FFA will be selling hot chocolate and popcorn.  The PTO will sell hamburgers, hot dogs and sausage and peppers (80 of each).  PTO will also sell water and soda.

It was unanimously voted to spend $250 for a PTO page in the yearbook.  The winning entry will be awarded at the next PTO meeting.  The first place winner will receive $25.  Other possible prizes will be decided at the next meeting.

 

New Business -

We received a very nice note from the Student Council President thanking the PTO for the donation we made to support the Thanksgiving Day baskets.

 

The next PTO meeting will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 7 pm in the library.

PTO Meeting Minutes November 2013

November 13, 2013

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $4,817.77. 

 

Stop & Shop A+ Rewards – We currently have 171 cards registered, compared to 88 last year.  We earned $298 in the month of October.

 

Thanksgiving Day Baskets – It was unanimously decided to donate $250 for the 25 baskets that are donated to area agencies by the Student Council and the School.

 

Principal Report –

Mr. Polansky is the interim principal.  He stated that he has an “open door” policy 24 hours a day.  He will work closely with the PTO whenever possible.  The Bonfire meeting was a great success and everyone is enthused and ready to work.

Mr. Polansky will participate in the “Principal’s Challenge” conducted by Stop and Shop.  He needs to write a letter stating his challenge by January 10, 2014.  One possible challenge would be Mr. Polansky dressing up as Superman, and with students as part of a flash mob, buy food to donate to a homeless shelter.  Students could also wear super hero costumes. 

 

Aggie Gear –

The possibility of adding items to our apparel included sweatpants, sweatshirts with zippers and baseball caps.  We will ask our supplier for costs and present at the next meeting.

 

Parent/Teacher Nite –

November 20th, we will set up a table to sell apparel.

 

Bonfire & Ice –

The PTO voted to spend up to $2,000 to pay the costs of the DJ, Mechanical Bull and Ice Sculpture for the Bonfire.  This event will be held on Friday, December 13th from 4-9 pm.  The PTO will try to recoup the money spent by collecting donations at the door, charging $5 for a mechanical bull ride and selling food (hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches) and apparel.

Treasurer’s Report – Current balance is $1566.77.  We raised $368 from the Target contest (Give with Target) which was conducted during the summer. 

 

We need to send an email to Cheryl to watch for the check and let her know that it is our money.

 

Fall Show – sign-up sheets were passed around.  Fall Show is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00 to 5:00.  We will have a bake sale along with selling the apparel.  We need to email Mr. Dempsey & Mr. Polansky to remind them.

 

New item for Fall Show this year is a scarf.  Scarves are being made by Deb Desmond and Leslie Rollins who are donating the material.  Scarves will sell for $10.

 

We will solicit during Fall Show for more Stop&Shop card numbers to add for the A+Plus rewards program.

 

We will also hand out flyers to remind parents about the Thanksgiving food donations.

 

Apparel - Further discussion will take place at the next meeting, possibly adding sweatpants to the items available for sale.  We will have a sample to show and a cost from the vendor.

 

Student Council representatives were voted into office tonight.  Representing the PTO this year will be Jim Tusino, Dan Cunha and Dawn Parmeggiani.

 

Discussion about a Bonfire took place again, Jim Tusino to contact Mr. Dempsey to discuss possible dates in January.

 

The new PTO website has been linked to the school website under the parents section.

September 2013

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 by the President, Jim Tusino

Officers were introduced:

Treasurer’s Report – The checking account balance is $1868.77.  There are no outstanding bills at this time. 

 

Mr. Dempsey took a few minutes to welcome everyone.

 

Discussed events held throughout the year.  Mrs. Lewandowsky spoke on the donation of turkey baskets at Thanksgiving, donation of aggie gear at Christmas time, the Polar Plunge in March, essay contest for seniors and the Walk for Hunger in May.  She also stated that the teachers enjoyed their breakfast and lunch on Teacher Appreciation Day and also the small gifts during the week.

 

Fall Show – October 18-20th - A schedule will be available at the next meeting to sign up to help sell aggie gear during the three day event.  A bake sale will take place again this year.  Aggie sweatshirts have been ordered (sweatshirts purchased for Freshman Orientation were all sold).  We will sell blankets at Fall Show as these were a big seller last year.  It will have the Chieftan and slogan on it.

 

Discussions for Fall Show included a scarecrow contest for the Freshman and a corn maze.  There is not enough time to advertise the contest.  The corn needs to be planted in the springtime so maybe next year on these two items.

 

School Council Elections will be held at the next pto meeting.

 

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at 7 pm.

PTO Meeting Minutes June 2013

June 2013

Current bank balance is $788.  One small bill is due to Morgado.  This will be paid by the end of June.

 

The Stop & Shop check should be received by the end of June.

 

We will order the following inventory for Freshman Orientation:

 

            Sweatshirts – 5 small, 10 medium, 10 large, 10 extra large

            Long Sleeve Shirts – 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large

 

A discussion to purchase and sell blankets and beach towels was tabled to September.

 

Members of the PTO and Mr. Dempsey would like to hold a Bonfire again next year.  The PTO will work closely with him to make that happen.
